RB Leipzig falls back: Dimeres warn of alarm signs!
RB Leipzig lost the last test game of preparation against the first division club Lens 1-2. This appearance was strongly reminiscent of the disappointing performance of the previous season. At the center of criticism is Arthur Vermeeren, a defensive player of the team who noted that the team did not appear as a unit and played too individually instead. Despite the critical situation, Vermeeren looks optimistic about the upcoming cup game against the fourth division team Sandhausen.
After the game, coach Ole Werner expressed that the high training pollution and playing through throughout the entire 90 minutes were decisive reasons for the weak performance. He found that the players were often busy with themselves and that the team lacked freshness and clarity in the common action patterns. This could be an indicator of the challenges that the team has to face in the upcoming competitions.
Fluctuating performance in the friendly
In an earlier test game against Atalanta, which took place as part of the summer preparation, Leipzig also had to accept a 1-2 defeat. The game started promising for Leipzig when Loïs Openda scored the 1-0 by volley after a corner kick by Christoph Baumgartner in the 12th minute. Leipzig initially dominated the game, but was unable to use the chances to increase to 2-0.
Although coach Werner replaced players at half -time, the game flow was initially preserved. But there was a turning point in the final phase: Gianluca Scamacca scored in the 86th minute, followed by Lorenzo Bernasconi, which in the 90th minute ensured the 2-1 final score for Atalanta. Despite the defeat, the team showed a stable and playful performance overall.
Commitment to the fans
A positive highlight after the game was the commitment of striker Lois Openda, who gave away around 200 jerseys to the loyal fans of Lens. Openda previously played at Lens for a year before moving to RB Leipzig in 2023 and also scored the honor goal for 1: 2 in this game.
The team's gaze is now aimed at the upcoming challenges, in particular the cup game against Sandhausen. Those responsible hope that they can pull the right teachings out of the test games in order to act more successfully in the new season. In view of the previous services, it remains to be seen that the team will work on their team dynamics in the next few weeks and will appear as a closed unit.
