Autumn adventure in the Leipzig Zoo: A festival for the whole family!

October 1, 2025 brings joy and variety for animal lovers and those interested in history in Leipzig. In the coming days, the citizens expect two outstanding events that offer both entertainment and education.

In the Leipzig Zoo, the event "Autumn holidays in the Zoo" is on the program, which takes place from October 3 to 19, 2025. Visitors can look forward to a new terrarium that houses many different types. The offer also includes varied tours through the zoo, popular insect Olympiads and changing hands-on and handicrafts for large and small animal lovers. The unique insect exhibition "Tiny Giants", which can be seen until October 31, is particularly attention-based and presented 27 insects in XXL format.

Diverse family program in the zoo

For families, a special “holiday tour” is offered, which starts on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. and promises a one -hour exploration of the zoo. Another “discovery tour” takes an hour and a half and offers special insights into the Okapi forest and feeding that have exciting experiences for the whole family. A highlight for the youngest visitors is the Halloween spectacle, which takes place from October 31 to November 2. Children up to 16 years who come in costumes receive free admission on October 31.

Another climax in the zoo is the pongoland gazebar, where the chimpanzees are happily playing Bou and Evelyn. The Gondwanaland tropical experience world also attracts tropical waters and an impressive suspension bridge in the rainforest with boat trips.

In parallel to the autumn animal world, Leipzig also celebrates with a cultural event: the Frei_raum Pavilion on Wilhelm-Leuschner-Platz. This will be opened from October 1 to 8, 2025 and represents a variety of events to promote democracy and freedom, which serve as a prelude to laying the foundation of the freedom and unit monument on October 9, 2025.

Cultural highlights on Wilhelm-Leuschner-Platz

The opening of the pavilion will take place on October 1 at 5:30 p.m. and is initiated with the play "The measurement of democracy-a Wilhelm-Leuschner portrait". The event is accompanied musically by the Leipzig women's trio Rada Synergica. Documentation and feature films on topics such as the Stasi, flight and the peaceful revolution are planned for the afternoon hours, while in the evening there are discussions, readings and talks.

On October 7th, the podcast "We are the people" will be recorded live, and on October 8th a benefit concert "Support for Ukraine" with the Batiar Gang awaits guests. The entire pavilion remains accessible to the public from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the weekend from 11 a.m. and admission is free. This cultural series not only creates a space for important exchange, but also embodies the memory of a significant part of the story that Leipzig has founded.
