Book summer Saxony: Pass and certificates for young readers!
The Buchsommer Saxony and the Buch summer Junior opened their goals on June 16, 2025 and invite all pupils between the ages of 11 and 16 to immerse themselves in the fascinating world of books. These initiatives, which extend over the period until 9 August, are intended to encourage reading pleasure and, above all, overcome the so -called reading knick. This year, 120 libraries in Saxony, including 12 district libraries in Leipzig, take part in the project, which has been established as a nationwide project since 2012. According to leipziginfo.de, the participants can read from a special media selection and receive a reading certificate if you read three or more books during the program.
A highlight of the Buchsommer event will be the final event in the Moritzbastei, which takes place on August 22nd at 4:30 p.m. Here all readers can share and celebrate their experiences. In addition, the Buchsommer reader award is awarded, which selects the favorite title of the participants and places a special focus on the latest youth literature of German-speaking authors.
Book summer junior and reading promotion
In addition to the Saxony Bucksummer, the Buch summer junior is also offered, which is specially designed for primary school children. These little readers also have the opportunity to acquire a certificate and take part in a final party. The book summer is not only a reading promotion project, but has also established itself as an important building block to strengthen the reference to German -language literature in young people. The Saxon State Ministry of Science, Culture and Tourism promotes this important initiative carried out by the Saxony Library Association.
of originally 60 participating libraries with around 4,000 readers, the number has increased to 120 libraries with almost 10,000 participants by 2023. The popularity of the project is shown in the lively participation and the steadily growing interest in the promotion of reading.
Buchsommer reader price and conditions of participation
The Buchsommer reader price is a permanently integrated part of the book summer and is determined in two steps: First, an independent youth jury, aged 14, nominates five titles from submitted books. Subsequently, a coordination of the readers on these nominated titles will take place by the end of the book summer. To ensure that each child only gives their voice once, each participant receives a ballot with an individual code. The status of the votes can be viewed online and the winner will be announced about four weeks after the book summer at a final event. The author of the price title is hired for a reading trip in five libraries to further inspire young readers.
