Aldi opens a new store in the Ostforum Leipzig – a shopping experience of the future!
Aldi is opening a new store in the Ostforum Leipzig with a sales area of 1,000 square meters. Loud Real estate newspaper The opening of the market took place last Friday, while the Ostforum is almost completed by the Adler Group. This gives customers another point of contact within the shopping center.
Aldi's expansion in Leipzig is part of a comprehensive modernization strategy that includes a total of 13 openings between March 2023 and December 2024. The discounter announced this on its website Aldi Nord reported. In addition to the new market in the Ostforum, the opening of an ALDI market in a historic building, the Speckshof & Hansa Haus, in downtown Leipzig is also planned for the end of 2023.
Planned openings and sustainable development
In addition to these new openings, a large Aldi store will be announced in the retail park at Holzhäuser Straße 108. This market offers a sales area of 1,235 square meters and was recently opened. Marco Krahl, Head of Real Estate and Expansion, emphasizes that the new openings and also the changes in the existing stores are tailored to the changing shopping habits of customers.
Comprehensive construction and revitalization projects are planned for the coming years. In detail, customers can expect two new locations, one relocation and three expansions in 2023. Two new locations as well as a demolition and new construction are planned for 2024, while various expansions and new buildings are also on the agenda in 2025.
Sustainability in focus
Aldi also attaches great importance to sustainability. The sales area is expected to grow by more than 65% by the end of 2025 compared to 2022, which corresponds to an area of approximately 1.5 football fields. Torsten Spaller, Head of Real Estate and Expansion for the north of the Leipzig metropolitan region, emphasizes the positive impact of these projects on the environment. All new stores will be equipped with energy-saving LED lighting, while 18 ALDI stores will be equipped with heat recovery systems for heating.
What is particularly noteworthy is that eleven new or modernized buildings do not use fossil fuels. In addition, there is a predominantly wooden construction method in five markets, which promotes ecological construction. Sustainability is not just a buzzword, but is firmly anchored in the building specifications, with recyclable materials also being taken into account.
The planned projects show that Aldi is not only striving to expand its market presence, but is also taking its responsibility for the environment and sustainability into account. The uniform appearance of the stores should also support the brand identity and at the same time meet the needs of customers.
