Traffic chaos through A14 building: Massive closures in Wittenberge!

In October 2025, due to construction work on the A14 motorway, there are significant traffic restrictions for drivers between Wittenberge and Seehausen. The [MAZ Online] (https://www.maz-online.de/lokales/prignitz/wittenberge/sperrung-a14-bau-wabout-an-b189-wittenberge-und-sehausen-karbov7kobfuje6pke6Whftdt4.html? B189 north of the Vielbaum junction to the north of the Geestgottberg junction. This full closure will take place from Wednesday, October 8, at 7 a.m. to Thursday, October 9, at 5 p.m.

Alternative routes were signposted for the diversion, which lead over the state road L2, the state road L38 and the K1020 district road. In addition, on Monday, October 6th, Tuesday, October 7th, and Friday, October 10th, there are half -side closures of the B189 at the Geestgottberg branch. This half -sided blocking will apply from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and traffic should be directed to the construction site using traffic lights. The construction work is necessary to carry out bridge work that are related to the northern extension of the A14.

Long -term effects for the residents

The effects of the construction work are not only short -term in nature. Tagesschau reports that the old Elbbrücke of the B189 is demolished and rebuilt by Wittenberge. From mid-2026, traffic is to be directed via the incomplete A14 bridge. This will result in considerable detours and longer travel times for residents in the surrounding villages, such as Beuster, Losenrade, Geestgottberg and Wahrenberg.

Mayor Rüdiger Kloth is concerned that the laid federal road could be more difficult to reach for drivers from the affected villages. Many residents commute to work to Wittenberge every day, and local companies are dependent on the crossing of the Elbe. Kloth demands additional driveways, but has so far not received any support from the responsible bodies.

Project details and time frames

The section of the A14 between Seehausen and Wittenberge will have a length of 10.8 kilometers, with the new Elbe bridge measures about 1.1 kilometers. According to Holger Behrmann, the overall project manager of Deges, it will take a year after the first direction of the direction is released for the other side of the bridge. He also makes it clear that there will be no financing problems and that a construction stop is excluded.

The A14 will play a crucial role in the East German motorway network because it closes the largest still existing gap. In the coming years, a total of 155 kilometers of motorway will be built through the federal states of Brandenburg, Saxony-Anhalt and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. However, developments require both patience and flexibility from the residents and users of the B189.
