Kraftklub concert in Connewitz: fans wait in vain outside!
On Friday evening, August 9, 2025, a highly anticipated concert by the band Kraftklub took place at UT Connewitz. Despite a last-minute announcement via Instagram two days earlier and no official confirmation, the concert attracted many fans. However, hundreds of supporters were only able to watch the evening from outside as the strict entry guidelines turned away visitors who did not adhere to the required dress code. Around the event, many fans waited in vain for a spontaneous outdoor performance by the band, which was briefly shown from the first floor around midnight. This situation created a passionate atmosphere on site.
The concert was a spectacular start, while at the same time the new school year in Saxony is just around the corner. On August 11th, 534,000 students will return to school, while on August 9th, 37,000 children have already started school. Nevertheless, the education system remains under pressure: although the Ministry of Culture has a higher number of teachers, it is still faced with a shortage of teachers and financial problems. The teachers' union GEW warns that teachers are being overloaded and is calling for a fundamental realignment of education policy.
Strength club on a big tour
The well-known Chemnitz band Kraftklub has also announced something else exciting: their fifth studio album entitled “Die in Karl-Marx-Stadt” will be released in November 2025. The band is planning to go on a big tour next year. This begins in September 2025 with an appearance at the “SWR 3 New Pop Festival” in Baden-Baden. A total of 14 indoor concerts in Germany as well as live shows in Luxembourg, Austria and Switzerland are on the program in March 2026. Fans can look forward to a mix of new songs, including the pre-release single “Schief in meine Chor”, as well as their hits such as “Songs for Liam” and “Schuße in die Luft”. Some concerts, such as in Munich, Berlin and Erfurt, are already sold out.
Political and social issues
While the musical event captivated many Leipzig residents, political topics also provided topics of conversation. Chancellor Friedrich Merz is coming under pressure because of his decision to partially stop arms exports to Israel. This measure, which he justified with the worrying situation of the civilian population in Gaza, was not uniformly supported within the Union and caused resentment. Merz emphasizes that Germany still stands by Israel and that there will be no paradigm shift in foreign policy. However, his decision also received support from the SPD, the Left and the Greens.
In the Saxony region, not only does the school year start and important concerts are held, but social commitment is also visible. Over 2,000 participants took part in the Christopher Street Day in Bautzen, where Kraftklub also performed. In addition, a new sports pool will be opened on Rabet in Leipzig.
In summary, the weekend in Saxony offers a mix of music events, social issues and political debates - a sign of the region's lively and dynamic culture.
