Train chaos between Leipzig and Dresden: emergency doctor deployment ensures closure!

Today, August 24, 2025, there will be significant restrictions on rail traffic between Dresden and Leipzig. Transport connections in this area have been severely affected since Sunday morning. The section between Wurzen and Borsdorf was closed at 6:30 a.m. due to an emergency medical operation in connection with Intercity 2044 from Dresden to Hanover. This interruption not only affects long-distance traffic, regional and S-Bahn lines are also affected.

Long-distance trains between Riesa and Leipzig are being rerouted, while several RE50 trips and all S-Bahn stops in Machern are canceled. The situation remains tense and it is currently unclear when normal train services between the two cities can be restored. This disruption represents a significant restriction, especially for commuters and travelers. According to MDR, there are delays and train cancellations across all long-distance and regional transport.

Emergency medical services cause disruptions

The emergency medical intervention that led to these extreme measures became necessary after a person was hit by a train opposite the Rosengarten stop and seriously injured. Despite the initial request for a rescue helicopter, this could be canceled again as the situation was brought under control by the railway emergency manager, who arrived at 12:50 p.m. However, these events took place not only in Saxony, but also in Zweibrücken, Rhineland-Palatinate, where a railway line was also closed due to a similar incident [Rheinpfalz].

In Zweibrücken, the railway line between Saarbrücken and Pirmasens was closed at midday after a person was seriously injured. In this context, regional train journeys were canceled and Landauer Straße near the train stop also had to be closed. While replacement buses were used until late afternoon, it was notable in Saxony that a track was opened around 9 a.m., but the entire operation remains uncertain.

Passengers are therefore urged to find out about current connections and consider possible alternative routes before traveling. The effects are noticeable on both long-distance and regional transport and show how sensitive the rail network reacts to such emergencies.
