DHL moves its headquarters to Schkeuditz: mega profit for the region!
Deutsche Post DHL Express Holding officially relocated its headquarters to Schkeuditz at Leipzig/Halle Airport today. This step is seen as significant for the economic development of the entire region. Loud Thuringia24 DHL is already working more intensively at the location, where over 7,000 employees work in the DHL hub.
The Senior Vice President of DHL Aviation Europe, Markus Otto, describes the move as a logical step that closely aligns the legal structure of the holding company with its operational processes. Finally, the majority of the management department is also anchored in Schkeuditz. The decision is not only seen as an internal update, but also as a strategic signal for the central importance of Leipzig Airport in international logistics.
Economic advantages for Schkeuditz
The relocation of the headquarters is expected to significantly increase the city of Schkeuditz's trade tax revenue. The city expects an increase from 25 million euros in the previous year to around 119.4 million euros in 2023, which represents an almost fivefold increase. The trade tax rate was also reduced from 390 to 300 percent, making Schkeuditz one of the most tax-efficient cities in Saxony. In comparison: The corresponding rate in Bonn is 537 percent Economy in Saxony reported.
The settlement of Deutsche Post DHL Express Holding in Schkeuditz not only strengthens the location, but also brings further economic stimulus. It is expected that the city will benefit from the additional trade tax revenue and the associated strengthening of its financial base. Mayor Rayk Bergner (CDU) expressed optimism about the municipality's financial situation, but without giving specific figures.
Expansion at the location
The move is part of a larger strategy by DHL to further expand its presence at Leipzig Airport. The “LEJ Campus” has already been opened in recent years, offering 1,100 newly created jobs. Leipzig/Halle Airport is also planning to expand the apron to create more parking spaces and new buildings, which should significantly increase the capacity for freight business.
Overall, the relocation of the company's headquarters shows not only the strategic relevance of Leipzig Airport, but also DHL's commitment to the further development of the location, as in various reports, including Thuringia24 and Economy in Saxony, described.
