Wittenberg entrepreneur auction tower: vision for tourism!

The Wittenberg entrepreneur Lutz Lange bought the former border tower in Cumosen for 156,000 euros at an auction in Berlin. This event took place in the Hotel Esplanade and attracted a total of 65 bidders, of whom only five in the last round competed for the tower. The minimum bid was scheduled at 5,000 euros, and for a long time the contract was given plus fees. The tower, which was previously used as a warehouse, is a listed building with a considerable need for repair and renovation, which makes the plans all the more important for future use. According to Az-Online Plant Lange, three apartments and a museum facility for border history to set up.

For the implementation of this project, Ralf von Hagen, the head of the blue light museum in Beuster, is supported for a long time. Together they want to create a tourist offer on the Elberadweg, which not only includes the border tower itself, but also integrates the Hanseatic city of Seehausen. Among other things, there are a tower clock museum and the blue light museum mentioned. The accessibility of the tower is to be improved by traveling both by the Hotel Alte Oilmühle in Wittenberge and via a ferry between Lütkenwisch and Schnackenburg.

financing and construction planning

The purchase price is financed without borrowing. The modernization costs for the border tower and the associated side gala are estimated at around 250,000 euros. It is planned to start construction work in 2026, while the plans are to start in 2025. Maz-Online emphasizes that the tower is a typical functional architecture of the tower of the tower Positioning border security systems of the former GDR and thus also fits into the historical narrative in its external form.

The completion of the entire project is planned for the State Garden Show in 2027. Lutz Lange has already gained experience in monument protection, such as when renovating Kletzke and the chapel in Klein Linde, which should benefit him in the implementation of this ambitious project.
