Seehausen modernizes old town: new sewers and streets for €561,000

In the Hanseatic city of Seehausen, extensive construction work was recently completed in the old town and on the Green Path. How AZ Online reported, members of the construction, regulatory and environmental committee found out about the completion of the extensive measures in the region. The chairman of the committee, Willi Hamann, emphasized that the funding measures were implemented in 2024 and 2025.

The construction work included the construction of a new waste water sewer system and a drinking water pipe, which are of great importance for the residents. In addition, a sewage pressure pipe was installed and a sewage pumping station was built on Altstadt Street. The construction of house connection shafts and the laying of drinking water supply pipes to the adjacent properties were also among the measures carried out.

Extensive renovation work

The old infrastructure in the old town and on Grüner Weg consisted largely of large-format concrete slabs that were in dire need of renovation. It was not possible to restore the existing slabs, which is why the decision was made to install a new asphalt concrete road surface. The measure was financially supported by both the water association and the Hanseatic city. The water board covered the costs for the surfacing width of the pipe trenches, while the city financed the remaining strip widths.

In total, this project provided funding of over 561,000 euros. The city was supported in this by the Ministry for the Environment, Agriculture and Energy of the State of Saxony-Anhalt and the State Administration Office. The Hanseatic City of Seehausen provided an equity share of 120,000 euros.

Support program for municipal investments

These measures are supported by a comprehensive federal program that has increased local investment activity in recent years. Loud Federal Ministry of Finance The infrastructure program was allocated 3.5 billion euros under the Municipal Investment Promotion Act (KInvFG I) to support financially weaker municipalities.

An initial balance shows that these funds benefited the already economically weaker municipalities. The supported municipalities recorded a 77% increase in their capital investment expenditure from 2015 to 2023. In comparison, spending in unsubsidized municipalities only increased by 48%. Such programs are crucial to addressing the infrastructural challenges in cities like Seehausen.

Efforts to improve infrastructure are important not only for financial but also for social reasons. By creating and modernizing infrastructure, the quality of life of citizens is increased, which has a positive effect on the attractiveness of the region.
