Bavaria demands over 480,000 euros from the Jennerwiesenbahn back!
The Free State of Bavaria is calling for part of the funding provided in 2016 for the Jennerwiesenbahn. How Antenne Bayern reports, the recovery is 486,763.20 euros. This measure takes place due to the removal of the Jennerwiesenbahn before the end of the ten -year purpose binding period, which was associated with the funding.
In 2016, the Jennerbahn received a funding of around 9.8 million euros. The original support measure not only comprised the replacement of the Jennerbahn, but also the Jennerwiesenbahn and Mitterkaserbahn as well as the demolition and new construction of the mountain and valley stations, including the workshops. The extensive support framework also included the renewal of the pump plant and the construction of a compressor station for the snowmaking system, but the snowmaking system itself was not part of the funding.
Changes in use
The Jennerwiesenbahn has now been sold, buyers are the "Bergbahnen Dachstein West". Last winter no alpine skiing was held at the Jenner because the slopes were no longer worthwhile. In order to take into account the increased environmental awareness, the new concept relies on alternative uses. Instead of traditional skiing, ski routes for ski tourers and freeriders, a toboggan run and a winter hiking trail are now offered. This concept aims to save resources and protect the environment.
Overall, the elimination of the alpine skiing and the recovery of the funding reflects the challenges in front of which many mountain railways in the region are increasingly facing. Loud ORF Salzburg Could also find such adjustments in other regions, since more and more operators are relying on sustainable concepts.
