RB Leipzig secures Ole Werner: coaching change perfect!

RB Leipzig has a new coach: Ole Werner is moving from Werder Bremen to the Saxons. After intensive negotiations between Marcel Schäfer, the sporting director of RB Leipzig, and Clemens Fritz from Werder Bremen, the transfer has now been officially confirmed. The coach will receive a contract until 2027 and will be accompanied by his assistant coaches Patrick Kohlmann and Tom Cichon, who are also moving to Leipzig.

The transfer is not only a sporting decision, but also has a significant financial impact on SV Werder Bremen. Through the departure of Werner and his assistants, the club saves around 2.5 million euros in salary costs annually. Werder Bremen had originally demanded six million euros as a transfer fee, while Leipzig only wanted to offer two to three million. Ultimately, both clubs managed to find a compromise, although the exact transfer fee and possible bonus payments are not yet known.

Lengthy negotiations

The negotiations about Werner's move were lengthy and were complicated by the discussion about Matthias Jaissle as an alternative candidate. Despite the difficult circumstances, the parties were able to reach an agreement and official confirmation of the change is imminent. The final contractual details should be clarified next weekend. Werner was under contract with Werder Bremen until the summer of 2026, and now a new chapter begins in Leipzig.

The coach faces the big challenge of bringing back RB Leipzig's success. The team, which has always been competitive in the Bundesliga in recent years, is looking for new impulses. With Werner, the club hopes to focus on its sporting goals again and be able to compete for the top places next season.

The agreement between RB Leipzig and Werder Bremen shows how important a flexible attitude can be in transfer negotiations. Both clubs had to deviate from their original ideas and make adjustments to ultimately reach a solution. RB Leipzig is now excited to see what successes can be achieved with Ole Werner in the coaching bench.
