Warning strike in the heart center: employees demand 12% more wages!

A major warning strike took place on Monday at the Helios Heart Center in Leipzig. Between 150 and 200 employees took part in the protest campaigns to demonstrate their demands for better working conditions and an increase in wages. Max Leurle, union secretary of Verdi, confirmed the high level of participation and explained the central claims of the employees: a wage increase of 12 percent, four days paid special vacation for Verdi members and adequate reward for long-standing employees. The Helios Heart Center is currently 5 percent below the Helios Group's collective agreement, which the employees find insufficient.

Despite these considerable concerns, there has been no response to the management to the demands. Clinic spokes Luisa Winkler emphasized that Helios had made an attractive offer and invited Verdi to the next round of negotiations. In view of the current situation, she emphasized that emergency care during the strike was ensured by an emergency service agreed between the clinic and the union.

Renewed negotiations and demonstration

The strike actions are part of a persistent conflict that has been going on since the beginning of the year. There have already been three warning strikes, and other actions, including a demonstration, are planned for Tuesday. According to Max Leurle, employees in the Helios Heart Center deserve worse compared to other Helios locations, such as Aue and Plauen, which increases the urgency of the demands.

The negotiations for a new house collective agreement at the St. Georg Clinic are also running. Verdi has terminated the previous collective agreement to further develop it. The core claims there include a fee increase of 7 percent and an annual special payment of over 500 euros or four additional days off. Managing Director Claudia Pfefferle from St. Georg reports on a first offer to develop the tariff fees and allowances, but sees further demands.

Opinion of Helios

The Helios Group has rejected the union's demands and claims that the last tariff package presented could "more than keep up" with other locations. The company's spokeswoman said that the strike is irritated. Despite these disputes, the union remains determined to continue to represent the concerns of the employees and to draw attention to the insufficient conditions.

Overall, the warning strike at the Helios Heart Center in Leipzig shows how important employees are appropriate wages and working conditions and that they are willing to stand up for their rights, even if the management has not yet responded to their demands. The upcoming demonstrations are expected to draw further public attention to this conflict, which could also affect future quality of work in the health facility.
