Toni Wachsmuth will be the new sports manager at Lok Leipzig!

The 1. FC Lok Leipzig has appointed Toni Wachsmuth as the new managing director of sports. This was officially announced on Tuesday, August 6, 2025. Florian Eichler from the club presidium emphasized that the recent successes of the association were significantly influenced by Wachsmuth. In recent years, the association has gone through a gratifying development, and Wachsmuth is one of the main responsible for this upswing.

Toni Wachsmuth came to the 1st FC Lok Leipzig in March 2024 at a time when the club was in a sporting leadership crisis. At the beginning of the 2024/25 season, he was appointed sports director, and together with the new head coach Jochen Seitz, he headed the team for the most successful season since the club was founded. Under her lead, the 1st FC Lok won both the regional league championship and the Saxon Cup victory.

New responsibility

Wachsmuth described his calling to the managing director of Sport as “great honor and at the same time a great responsibility”. He has set himself the goal of continuing the positive development of the association and leading 1. FC Lok Leipzig into professional football. The team failed in the promotion duels to the 3rd league against the North Master Havelse in June, but both Wachsmuth and the Presidium look optimistically into the future.

The decision to reorganize the full -time responsibilities comes after Alexander Voigt has left June 30, 2025. Voigt had accepted a new job as a project manager in the construction industry. Wachsmuth is now part of the double leadership of the association together with Martin Mieth, who has been the managing director since January 2016 and is responsible for the economic-organizational area. This structure is intended to help define clear areas of responsibility and to increase efficiency in club management.

The way to success

Toni Wachsmuth, who comes from Thuringia, looks back on an impressive career. In his active time, he played for clubs such as Carl Zeiss Jena, Energie Cottbus, SC Paderborn, Chemnitzer FC and FSV Zwickau and has completed more than 400 professional missions. After his active career, Wachsmuth was a sports director in Zwickau for three and a half years before he was released in February 2023. After that, he worked as a TV expert, including for sports in the east.

Wachsmuth is very familiar with the upcoming task as managing director of Sport, since he was already traded as a possible successor in this role when he started the club in March 2024. The second home game against Meuselwitz is coming up next Sunday, in which Wachsmuth and the team want to show how to develop under the new conditions.
