In the past few days, several incidents involving both criminal acts and traffic accidents have been reported in the Leipzig region. Particularly noteworthy is an attempted fraud in which a 43-year-old man was arrested in Regis-Breitingen.
On October 17, 2025, between 2:15 p.m. and 4:05 p.m., a 91-year-old woman received a call from an unknown perpetrator. He claimed that her daughter urgently needed 70,000 euros for an operation in the hospital. The injured party, alarmed by the description, then contacted her daughter and informed the Borna police station. The suspect was ultimately arrested as he left the house where the intended victim was to be arrested and transferred to the Leipzig Central Police Custody. The following Saturday he was brought before the investigating judge and an arrest warrant was issued. The police are investigating commercial fraud, as l-iz.de reports.
Traffic accidents in Leipzig and the surrounding area
There were several reports in connection with traffic accidents on October 18, 2025. Shortly after 5:40 a.m. there was a collision between two vehicles in Schkeuditz, in which two people were injured. The 61-year-old driver of a VW Touran ignored the red light when turning and collided with a 47-year-old driver of a Hyundai i10 who was traveling on the B6. The impact sent the Hyundai crashing into a tree. Another incident occurred on the same day at 6:00 p.m. in Leipzig (Mockau-Nord), where a 28-year-old female driver of a Suzuki was seriously injured in a traffic accident. The 74-year-old driver of a Toyota allegedly disregarded the right of way when he turned. As a result of the collision, the Suzuki overturned and ended up on its roof. Here too, everyone involved was taken to hospital and the traffic police are investigating negligent bodily harm and the exact cause of the accident.
In addition, a speed camera was damaged in Leipzig (Baalsdorf) on October 18, 2025 at 1:15 p.m. Unknown perpetrators vandalized the glass pane of a speedometer with black paint, rendering the device unusable and causing material damage of around 300 euros.
