Cycling enthusiasm in Holzhausen: Schwingshandl criterion on Saturday!

On October 4, 2025, the exciting “Schwingshandl Cycle Race Criterion” will take place in Holzhausen. This event attracts numerous cycling professionals from all over Austria and promises a unique cycling experience for the whole family. The criterion course consists of a 700 meter long route on which the participants will drive a total of 60 laps, which corresponds to a total length of 42 kilometers. The focus is particularly on Josef Dirnbauer from the local Buchkirchner team, who goes into the race as a favorite.

The event begins at 11 a.m. with the U13 men and women as well as the female participants of the U15. Various children's races are planned in the afternoon, which take place at 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. The highlight of the day will be the elite race for adults at 4 p.m. There is also an extensive supporting program for all visitors. A bouncy castle and a raffle with attractive prices guarantee fun for the whole family. DJs will support the “After Race Party” and create a good atmosphere.

Promotion of women in cycling

Another focus is on promoting female participation in cycling. This becomes clear in the commitment of Velo Bavarian, a bicycle shop in derby, which Luke Frixou is managed. Not only a transactional space is to be created here, but also a joint -oriented environment that encourages women to participate in cycling. The Velo Bavarian Race Team (VBRT) was founded in 2022 and has set itself the goal of addressing women under representation in this sport.

A central concern of the VBRT is to increase the participation of women by securing sponsors such as Contiki. The entire focus is on forming a supportive community and improving security on the streets. This is in line with the goals of the British government to increase the bicycle and pedestrian activities and to ensure the safety of cyclists.

Initiatives and successes

As part of the Velo Bavarian Cycling Club (VBCC), over 552 members have already been won, 20% of whom are women. A survey showed that 75% of women have difficulty integrating into mixed cycling groups. Corresponding courses and group trips are therefore offered to create an inviting atmosphere and to promote the growth of female participants.

In its 2023 cycling season, VBRT has already achieved initial successes, including a podium for the driver Melissa Denman. With a squad of 34 drivers, including 11 women, is actively looking for other female participants - both experienced and new cyclists.
