Discovery Days at Leipzig Zoo: Celebrate twins with red-shouldered tamarins!
The Monkey Discovery Days will take place at Leipzig Zoo on June 21st and 22nd, 2025. These events offer visitors the opportunity to familiarize themselves intensively with the habitats and behavior of 17 different monkey species. These include, among others, chimpanzees, hussar monkeys and imperial mustache tamarins. Leipzig Zoo has put together a varied all-day program that is suitable for both animal lovers and families. The events aim to raise awareness about the importance of animal protection and the threats to endangered species, [mynewsdesk] reports.
Special highlights of the discovery days are exclusive views of Pongoland, where visitors can gain insights into the feeding, employment and care of the monkey species in Gondwanaland and Pongoland. Bookings for special “monkey” discovery tours are also possible online. Zoo visitors can look forward to creative activities from the zoo controllers, who will contribute to the entertainment with games and information. For the little guests, the zoo mascot Tammi will also be available at the entrance for souvenir photos from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
New addition to the zoo
A particularly happy event at Leipzig Zoo is the arrival of the red-shouldered tamarins. On June 10, 2025, the couple Mirabell and Bruno gave birth to twins. These young animals are already visible and are developing splendidly, with the male taking on a large part of the care. This is the couple's second offspring since moving to Gondwanaland last year. Red-shouldered tamarins come from the northern Amazon region and are known for their distinctive social behavior, which makes them a fascinating part of the zoo day.
In addition to the monkey discovery days, Leipzig Zoo will also be offering further discovery days with the theme of insects at a later date, on July 26th and 27th, 2025. Tickets for upcoming events can be purchased in advance online. Evening tickets are available from 4 p.m., giving visitors the opportunity to experience the zoo in the evening hours.
Activities for the whole family
The Discovery Days program includes many interesting activities, such as getting to know food rations for the different monkey species and taking part in a monkey rally with a sticker sheet. These activities are intended not only to impart knowledge, but also to provide a lot of fun and interaction. The zoo shop also offers some special offers, such as a plush orangutan priced at €14.99 (instead of €19.99), to give visitors a souvenir of their exciting day at the zoo to take home with them.
