Leipzig Jazz Days 2023: A festival of sounds and encounters!

The Leipzig Jazz Days are just around the corner and promise to be a celebration of extraordinary music. From October 11th to 18th, 2023, over 100 artists from all over the world will be presented as part of the 49th edition. This year's festival has the motto “Mapping Music” and invites visitors to embark on a journey of exploration through soundscapes and musical topographies.

lvz.dereports that the festival takes place at various locations in Leipzig, including intimate clubs, the opera house, cinemas, galleries and even the Völkerschlachtdenkmal. The event is organized by Annika Sautter, who coordinates the extensive program.

The opening concert on October 11th at UT Connewitz will feature two highlights: Anw Be Yonbolo and a special appearance by Pino Palladino and Blake Mills, who will give their only concert in Germany. The main acts also include the British bassist Dave Holland, known from his time with Miles Davis, and the Swedish pianist Bobo Stenson, who is considered a pioneer of Scandinavian jazz.

Artists and highlights

The Jazz Days offer a wide range of musical performances and styles. In addition to the artists already mentioned, Immanuel Wilkins, Stian Westerhus and Nduduzo Makhathini are expected to perform. The latter was recently awarded the German Jazz Prize as “Live Act of the Year International”. Experimental formations such as Witch 'n' Monk and the duo of Shabaka Hutchings and Nduduzo Makhathini will also be highlights of the program.

Another interesting format is artistic reflection, which deals with topics such as visibility, selection and cultural belonging. Works by artists such as Luca Siseras and Frieder Weiss will be presented, as will interactive formats in the “Laboratory” in the KUB gallery that deal with global deforestation issues.

Tickets and information

Ticket prices for the festival are 199 EUR for a festival pass (170 EUR reduced). These are available in limited editions via the ticket gallery in the LVZ foyer, in Barthels Hof and online. The Leipzig Jazz Days promise not only a cultural treasure trove, but also a space for encounters and exchange between artists and the audience.
