Leipzig closes citizens' offices: austerity measures begin!

The city of Leipzig is facing a tense budget situation, leading to the closure of two less frequented citizens' offices. How L-IZ reports, the citizens' office in the southwest center will be closed on November 30th, while the Böhlitz-Ehrenberg citizens' office will close its doors in mid-December. These measures are part of a comprehensive austerity program that the city is introducing due to the current budget situation.

Both citizens' offices in the city have comparatively low demand and are known as smaller service points. The aim of the closures is to save costs and use resources more efficiently. Centralization also attempts to prevent temporary closures at other locations due to staff shortages.

Reasons for the closures

The city administration emphasizes that there are better connections to public transport at larger citizens' offices. These locations are able to handle additional citizen concerns, while smaller offices are often unable to accommodate the requests. The citizens' office in the southwest center is about 4 kilometers from Ratzelbogen, while the office in Böhlitz-Ehrenberg is less than 3 kilometers from Leutzsch DAY24 supplemented.

The city of Leipzig is also planning to expand digital solutions for citizen services. Many services, such as registering your place of residence, are already available online. A comprehensive overview of the digital services can be found on the site leipzig.de/buergerservice can be viewed. In addition, the use of a mobile citizen service is being examined at various locations, which could offer the entire service portfolio of a stationary citizen's office.

In the long term, these measures are intended to create more time for individual consultations at the remaining citizens' offices. The city administration is relying on a modern and digital future for citizen services.
