On June 30, 2025, a serious forest fire broke out in the Dresden Heath, specifically on Moritzburger Landstrasse in Hellerberge. A rescue helicopter, which had previously been on another mission, confirmed the situation, whereupon the operations manager immediately alerted additional forces. The fire was upgraded to alert level two, meaning there were sufficient firefighters and materials on site to fight the flames.
As darkness fell, the firefighting operation was temporarily interrupted, but a fire watch remained at the scene to keep an eye on the fire. The fire department plans to resume extinguishing operations the next morning and continue fighting the forest fire.
