Caution! Fraudsters lure seniors with false promises of winnings
On Friday, June 20, 2025, a senior citizen from Schönau fell victim to unscrupulous fraudsters who promised her a huge profit of tens of thousands of euros over the phone. But the prize came at a price: The fraudsters asked the woman to buy Apple gift cards worth several thousand euros and to pass on the codes over the phone. Tragically, the senior citizen complied with the demands and transmitted the valuable codes.
The police sound the alarm and warn urgently against such misleading promises of profits. She appeals to citizens to be vigilant and not to allow themselves to be put under pressure by demands for money. Important: Spending money to get a supposed win is a big risk! Don't give out any personal information over the phone and don't be fooled - the code on the voucher cards is enough to redeem the cash value! Be careful and protect yourself from scams!
