South Germany Cup 2025: Bavarian talents shine in badminton!

The South Germany Cup, held in Ruit from July 12th to 13th, 2025, represented a significant step in the cooperation between the Bavarian Badminton Association and the Badminton State Association of Baden-Württemberg. This cooperation, which has existed since 2022, aims to create synergies, promote talent and become stronger together. The South Germany Cup, which took place for the second time this year, is the central element of this collaboration and enables the best young players from both federal states to compete in sports badminton.de reports.

Overall, the most talented athletes in the U13 and U15 age groups from Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg competed against each other. Bayern fielded a strong team of 12 players: Aarya Dahiya, Marie Ullmann, Emma Flemming, Arya Mendiratta, Linus de Matos and Jaivigna Bollampalli were represented in the U13. The U15 was formed by Julia Sui, Maira Buckel, Marie Wong, Rana Medharametla, Jakob Hopp and Ratneesh Reddy Sugangar. The supervisors of the Bavarian team, sports director Lukas Gunzelmann and Talent Team Bayern coach Lino Degenkolb, were responsible for supporting the players during the competition.

Results and competitions

The competitions included six singles, two doubles and one mixed in both age groups. The U13 team from Bavaria in particular was in great form and won 6-3 against the team from Baden-Württemberg. However, the U15 had to struggle with a 2:7 defeat against the BWBV team. Despite the defeat, the team showed great fighting spirit and gained valuable experience that is important for their sporting development.

After the competition, the opportunity was used to promote further training. A joint training session for players and coaches took place in order to strengthen exchange and sporting cooperation, as is also emphasized on badminton-bbv.de. This is seen as a valuable part of the cooperation as the focus is on developing young talent.

Next steps and initiatives

However, the initiative to promote young talent is not just limited to the Southern Germany Cup. The Bavarian Badminton Association is planning further measures to specifically support the talent. For example, the district conference of the Bavarian Badminton Association took place in the Lower Bavaria-Upper Palatinate district on July 9, 2025, at which four players were nominated for the U17 European Championship. These sustained efforts show how serious the association is about promoting young talent, including with regard to mental health in sport and sustainability initiatives such as the GRÜNE FEDER, which was launched on July 8, 2025.

The cooperation between Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg in badminton is on a very good track. The South Germany Cup 2025 has set the course for a successful future for young athletes and highlighted the importance of shared training and competition experiences, which have a positive influence on the sporting development of the talent.
