Great musical magic: Gewandhaus Leipzig starts with film concerts!

The Gewandhaus zu Leipzig, one of Germany's most famous concert halls, launches in January 2026 with an exciting program of five special events. The events are aimed at concert lovers, families and film enthusiasts and offer a wide range of musical experiences.

On January 2, 2026, the audience will embark on an emotional journey with “The Lion King – Live in Concert”. The performance of the film music by Elton John and Hans Zimmer will be directed by Stephen Ellery and will take place in the Great Hall. “Highlights of the Most Beautiful Musicals” follows on January 3rd, presenting hits from popular musicals such as Mamma Mia!, Wicked and Moulin Rouge. International star soloists and the Cinema Festival Symphonics choir will also be taking part here.

A diverse program

On January 6th, the Gewandhaus will be transformed into a magical world with “The Lord of the Rings + The Hobbit – The Concert”. Howard Shore's music is accompanied by impressive animations that bring Tolkien's fantasy world to life. One evening later, on January 7th, the Kyiv Classic Ballet will provide a classical ballet highlight with “Swan Lake” under the direction of Tatiana Goliakova. On January 12th, the rousing show “Frozen 1 + 2 – The Music Show on Ice!” the program, which will feature hits sung live, ice dancers and acrobats.

The events all take place at 8 p.m. in the Great Hall of the Gewandhaus zu Leipzig, Augustusplatz 8, 04109 Leipzig, with one exception: the show on January 12th starts at 6 p.m. Access is barrier-free and you can easily travel with tram lines 4, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15 and 16 to the “Augustusplatz” stop as well as with the S-Bahn lines S1 to S5 (“Markt” stop). Buses (lines 72, 73, 89) also stop nearby (main station).

Diverse events 2025/2026

As part of the 2025/2026 schedule, numerous other events can also be experienced in the Gewandhaus. The upcoming concerts are diverse and range from classical sounds to modern musical performances. The Gewandhaus Orchestra, led by internationally renowned conductors, will hold numerous concerts in the coming months. From “Vivaldi – The Four Seasons” to benefit concerts, there is something for every musical taste.

Advance tickets for the performances in January 2026 can now be ordered online. Ticket prices vary and discounts are also offered for eligible individuals. In addition, concert seats are valid as a ticket on the Leipzig public transport network, which makes the visit particularly comfortable.
