Discover Leipzig: Three creative walks full of art and history!

Leipzig, a city full of cultural treasures, not only offers historical sights, but also a lively street art scene, as well as a unique ambience after sunset. A walk through the city becomes a journey of discovery in which art, history and city life meet. On October 1, 2025, three particularly recommended routes were presented that appeal to residents and visitors alike.

The first route leads through the South of Leipzig and impressively shows how street art shapes the cityscape. You can start strolling in the Center South and through the southern suburb to Connewitz. Here, various graffiti and murals come together, which come from talented artists. An outstanding inspection is the "Madonna with child" in Karl-Liebknecht-Straße, which has been a listed building since its creation by the artist Blek Le Rat in 1991. These and the facade of the "La Boum" bar, designed by Michael Fischer-Art in 2004, are part of the eleven selected works of art that can be discovered on this route, with other works of art to be found in Plagwitz. Loud Leipzig today If the city is a center for street art, which is characterized by large walls and facades that serve as canvases for creative forms of expression.

Illuminated beauty: Leipzig neon lights

The second route is devoted to the exploration of Leipzig's neon lights. After sunset, the city shows a completely different face. Neon lights are an essential part of the Leipzig identity, and many of the original GDR neon tubes have been preserved to this day. One of the most remarkable advertisements is the "spoon family" on a house wall that was installed in 1973 and can be made to shine for only 3 euros. These shining works of art give the city a unique character, while the neon clams on the milk bar penguin, which were renovated in 2023, offer another example of the continuing charm of this art of street.

The sporting side of city history

The third route focuses on the sporting history of Leipzig, which looks back on impressive 200 years. In cooperation with the city history museum, 22 displays and information boards were planned, six of which are already installed. The first stop of the route illustrates the first Leipzig gymnasium in Leplaystrasse. In addition, the Jewish sports club "Bar Kochba", founded in 1919, is discussed with 600 members. These tours are distributed across the entire city and are ideal for extensive walks or bike tours and open up new perspectives on the rich sports history of the city.

Overall, Leipzig shows with these different routes how culture, art and history are harmoniously integrated into city life. The city spoils its visitors with a diverse offer that offers both aesthetic and visual experiences. Urban life is further enriched by events such as the "Leipzig Urban Art Festival", which puts the street art scene and its important artists like MADC and One Truth into the spotlight. A walk through Leipzig becomes an unforgettable discovery tour.
