Riflemen's wives spoil the old people's home with delicious cakes and joy!

Today was a special day in the St. Thekla retirement home at the city park. Four ladies from the Winterswick St. Mary's Rifle Brotherhood organized a baking campaign with great commitment to bring joy to the residents. Eight wonderful tarts and cakes were served, which were not only pleasing to the eye but also delicious. The shooters Maria Layer-Kamps, Anita Fröhling, Maria-Anna Dahmen and Beate Cordes worked hard and offered an impressive selection of delicacies.

The residents of the nursing home enjoyed the cakes, which were offered in various variations, including raspberry cream, coconut cheese, gooseberry meringue and Black Forest cherry. Elsbeth Thonhauser, a resident of the Thekla House, praised the ladies' baking skills and insisted on trying two pieces. Last year she gave the riflemen from Winterswick small, self-knitted socks, which underlines the warm connection between the two groups.

Tradition of the shooters

This annual event takes place in October and is part of a larger commitment by the St. Mary's Riflemen, who visit the retirement home not only during the baking campaign, but also during their shooting festival around Corpus Christi. On these occasions, they not only offer residents delicious food but also a unifying flag waving experience. It is a beautiful expression of the community bond between the shooters and the older citizens.

To round off the coffee and cake campaign, there was a schnapps for everyone who wanted it. This traditional gesture created a happy atmosphere and led to lively conversations among those present. The care and affection that comes from such small actions is a great enrichment for the seniors.

Market of valuables

Another highlight in the region that is worth mentioning is the 16th Market of Treasures, which will take place on June 19, 2025 in the Brick and Lime Museum in Flintsbach. Organized by numerous exhibitors, visitors can expect a colorful range from decorative wood and glassware to delicate healing stone jewelry and creative garden decorations. As part of the market, there are also craft demonstrations, for example by Körbl fencers and glass engravers.

The event is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the entry price is 2 euros, with children up to 6 years getting in free. The Schadenfroh family from Flintsbach ensures the physical well-being of the visitors. It is recommended to use the old Flintsbach sports field as a parking lot in order not to burden the town unnecessarily. This market has established itself as a popular destination for visitors from near and far and is very popular.

While the seniors in the retirement home enjoy delicious cakes, creative and culinary experiences are on the program in Flintsbach. Both events highlight the importance of social interactions and community support.
