Schönau transformed: New beech fire area with green inner courtyard planned!

Mayor Peter Schelshorn reported yesterday in the Schönau Citizens' Hall on the status of the extensive renovation project at the Buchenbrand area. Many interested citizens and representatives of the association municipalities came to the event. Architect Edgar Thoma presented the plans, which were drawn up in close collaboration with the future users of the rooms.

The project aims to remodel and reorganize existing buildings rather than demolishing and rebuilding. The planned facilities include a four-group daycare center and four additional classrooms for the community school. In addition, a cafeteria will be created that can be used by both the school and the kindergarten. In order to improve the parking situation, 50 additional parking spaces are planned, while the route for pedestrians and cyclists will also be redesigned.

Renovation case details and new usage concepts

The renovation project includes the dismantling of the existing sports hall down to the shell, which will be converted into three separate buildings. Particularly noteworthy is the planned green inner courtyard, which is intended to provide light and air in the middle of the new building.

Elevators to the kindergartens and the new connecting buildings are planned for barrier-free access. In addition, the outer walls of the hall will be set back to create covered areas called loggias. The daycare center itself will have different playrooms, sleeping places and a children's kitchen, while a green open area will be created between the hall and the existing kindergarten.

The cafeteria and kitchen finally find their place in the old hall, which optimizes the short distance for the kindergarten children. The four classrooms in the connecting building are each designed for 30 children and offer external sun protection for the windows. Radon measurements before work began showed values below the specified threshold, so there are no health concerns.

Sustainable energy concepts

In addition, the buildings will be equipped with modern underfloor heating and a local heating supply. Photovoltaic systems are to be installed on the flat roof, with the architect having positive experiences with the flexibility of flat roofs with regard to PV systems.

Roman Roschig from commercial kitchen fitter Schafferer has provided information about the cafeteria's equipment, which is intended to ensure a high level of functionality. The planned innovations will make the Buchenbrand area not only a center for education and care, but also an important place for the community in Schönau.
