Record participation: 5,000 cyclists conquer the Mecklenburg Lake District!
On May 30, 2025, the Mecklenburger Seenrunde celebrated its eleventh edition with an impressive record number of participants: over 5,000 cyclists took part in the event. The participants in Neubrandenburg are expected to return on Saturday between 6 a.m. and midnight. The demand for the popular cycling event is reflected in the high number of active participants, who are divided into three different routes.
The majority of cyclists, around 3,900, chose the challenging 300 kilometer route, which leads from Neubrandenburg via Neustrelitz, Röbel, Alt Schönau and back to Neubrandenburg. The average travel time for this route is around 13 hours. Particularly adventurous participants started at night from 8 p.m., while others set out on the route at 3 a.m. in the morning.
Different routes and events
In addition to the long route, there was also a 100-kilometer women's circuit and mini Mecklenburg lake circuits for children and young people of up to 6 kilometers. The latter enjoyed great popularity and attracted several hundred children to Neubrandenburg. Parallel to the cycling event, a saddle festival took place in the culture park, which offered a lot of information about bicycles.
The event is actively supported by NDR. However, attention was also drawn to the safety of cyclists. The police asked all road users to be considerate and warned of particular dangers on State Road 25 between Neustrelitz and Mirow. There could be an increased volume of traffic due to a construction site and diversions on the B198, making conditions more difficult for cyclists.
The celebration of the communal experience
Detlef Koepke, the initiator and chief organizer of the Mecklenburg Lakes Circuit, made it clear that this event is not just about speed records. The focus is on the communal experience and achieving self-set goals. This year Maximilian Levy, an experienced cycling coach and former world champion, was the patron of the event. Despite a few falls and mishaps, the participants were very satisfied with how the Mecklenburg Lakes Circuit went and were looking forward to the next event, which is planned for May 24th to 25th, 2024.
