Community celebration at the German Music Festival: A festival of passion!
On June 17, 2025, the German Music Festival in Ulm and Neu-Ulm came to an end with a large community concert that took place on Münsterplatz. Over 20,000 musicians were active during the four days of the festival and thrilled the audience with a variety of events.
The weather gods initially didn't mean well for the festival visitors. A thunderstorm evening meant that several program items were canceled. Nevertheless, the musicians found joy in the comradely community that emerged during the evening in safe protection. Paul Lehrieder, President of the Federal Association of German Music Associations, gave an overall positive assessment of the event. He emphasized that the festivities showcased the voluntary commitment, musical excellence and community spirit of amateur music.
An unforgettable ending
The highlight of the last day was the parade with the Schönau Town Music and the Todtnauberg Trachtenkapelle, which ran smoothly despite a brief shower. Around 5,500 participants moved along the Danube to Petrusplatz in Neu-Ulm and created an impressive atmosphere. During the community concert, the Ulm Fischermarsch and the national and European anthems were heard, among other things.
In total, more than 500 events were offered, including free open-air concerts, competition games and championships. This diversity is estimated to have attracted more than 100,000 visitors over the four days, despite the target of 150,000. With the large number of participants and over 500 volunteers, the event-rich program was successfully implemented. The main organizer, Anita Huhn, praised the musical diversity and the commitment of the participants.
Competitions and honors
Particularly noteworthy were the competition games, in which music clubs were able to show their performances without being ranked. Among the competitions, conductor Andreas Schlegel's win with the Bubenhausen Music Association in the middle class of the European Championships in Bohemian-Moravian brass music stood out. A special highlight was the “Drum Battle” on Friday evening, which attracted many spectators.
Despite weather-related cancellations of some open-air concerts, the event remained accident-free. The high occupancy of the hotel and guesthouse rooms in both cities underlined the enormous interest and anticipation for the event. The German Music Festival was an impressive testament to the power and passion of amateur music, an experience that the participants will certainly remember for a long time.
