On October 11, 2025, extraordinary honors for outstanding commitment to the German Alpine Club (DAV) were awarded at a ceremony. Angelika Färbinger and Franziska Walcher were honored for their work in the DAV office. The certificates of honor were presented by Jörg Fegg, the 2nd chairman, and Maxi Essler, the 3rd chairman. Harald Grundel, board member of the climbing halls and a member of the DAV for 40 years, was also part of this special honor.
Another highlight of the event was the recognition of Hildegard Hasen Knopf, who has been a member of the Alpine Club for 70 years. As a thank you for her loyalty, she received an atmospheric Alpine bouquet, presented by Jörg Fegg and Maxi Essler. Honors in the German Alpine Club
The German Alpine Club presents various awards every year to recognize exceptional achievements. These awards include the DAV Prize, the Green Cross and the Environmental Seal of Quality. The DAV Prize is awarded in the volunteer category to people or groups who support the goals of the DAV through their commitment and innovative ideas. The sports prize is awarded to athletes from various disciplines. In recent years, Jan Hojer and Alex Megos, among others, have been honored for their participation in the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2021. The DAV German Climbing Team was also honored for qualifying for the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024. These awards promote awareness of the achievements of athletes and supporters in the DAV.
The Green Cross and the environmental quality seal
Another important element of the awards is the Green Cross, which is awarded for mountain rescues. This award is one of the most prestigious in mountain rescue. The award is based on a suggestion from the mountain rescue service and is subject to strict selection criteria. In addition, the environmental seal of quality is awarded to huts that are operated in an ecological and environmentally friendly manner. The hut is inspected every five years to ensure it meets the required standards. Special events may also lead to re-examination. This year, among others, the Zillertal Alps from 1921 and the DAV section Otterfing were honored with the environmental seal of quality.
The honors and awards in the DAV not only illustrate the importance of volunteer work in the association, but also the responsible treatment of nature and the appreciation of the members who have been committed for decades. Such events strengthen the feeling of community and motivate both old and new members to work for the goals of the Alpine Club.
