Shock at RB Leipzig: Ole Werner throws André Silva out of the squad!

Hamburg football coach Ole Werner, known as the former coach of SV Werder Bremen, recently caused a stir by leaving several players at RB Leipzig out of the pre-season squad. Among those affected is striker André Silva, who was removed from the squad before the first friendly against regional league team ZFC Meuselwitz. This raises questions about the future of the player, who played for Werder Bremen on a semi-loan basis last season and was only used to a limited extent.

Werner's decision is part of a comprehensive restructuring of the squad in Leipzig. The club plans to part ways with players who have no future in the team. In addition to André Silva, this also affects Timo Werner, Eljif Elmas and long-time player Kevin Kampl, who can also look for a new club after eight years at the club. Despite being sorted out, these players are still part of the normal training squad and will go to training camp.

The upheaval at RB Leipzig

RB Leipzig's squad currently consists of 35 players, and many contracts have uncertain future prospects. According to Ole Werner, he will work with players who are considered discarded next season. Werner emphasizes that a “training group two” will not be formed, which further increases the uncertainty in the squad. Sports director Marcel Schäfer explains that each player is informed individually about his role and that it is necessary to make a change in the team.

Timo Werner still has one year left on his contract with Leipzig and receives an annual salary of around 10 million euros. Despite his contract status, he is also faced with the question of what role he will play in the new season. For Silva and Elmas, both returning from loan, the situation is similar: their future remains uncertain and raises the question of how the coaching situation under Werner will influence developments in the team.

The reasons for Silva's elimination are profound, such as the recent performances and the lack of prospects that were already noticeable regardless of Werner's arrival at Leipzig. Silva was no longer featured regularly in the second half of last season and only scored once in eight games, which further weakened his position in the team.

The first steps of new coach Ole Werner clearly show that RB Leipzig wants to be prepared for the upcoming season, even if this comes at the expense of established players. The coming weeks and the upcoming test matches will show in which direction the team will develop.
