RB Leipzig strengthens itself: Engler as scout and Werner as new coach!
On July 9, 2025, RB Leipzig made some significant personnel changes and announcements. Maximilian Engler, a former scout for FC Bayern Munich, has been hired as “Head of Live Scouting 1st Team” and has already started his work. This could play an important role in optimizing the club's future squad planning after last season was disappointing for the Leipzig team. This season the team only achieved seventh place, their worst result since promotion in 2016. This development led to the dismissal of the previous coach Marco Rose and the search for a permanent solution. Under the leadership of Jürgen Klopp, the new head of global football at Red Bull, Ole Werner was finally introduced as the new coach. Werner, who previously worked at Werder Bremen, wants to use the club's high expectations and demands as additional motivation to get the team back on the road to success. lvz.de reports that ... and Yahoo Sports states that ….
In further personnel changes, Frederik Jäkel has extended his contract with RB Leipzig until 2027, while he will move to Eintracht Braunschweig on loan. Yussuf Poulsen may be facing a transfer to Hamburger SV. In addition, Timo Werner's plans to move to New York could be shaken as Arsenal have opted for Viktor Gyökeres. Eljif Elmas, who was loaned to FC Torino, was also given a second chance under new coach Ole Werner.
Preparations for the new season
All four injured RB Leipzig players are fit again and should play a crucial role in the coming season. The club is looking forward to the challenges ahead, which begin with the first game on August 22nd against Bayern Munich. At the same time, the Leipzig Fan Association is organizing a three-day away trip to the friendly against RC Lens in France to promote fan support beyond German borders. Advance tickets are already available for the season opener on August 2nd against Atalanta Bergamo.
In the club's history there is also talk of a change in the medical director position, as Dr. Percy Marshall leaves the club. His successor, Niklas Hennecke, will take office from July 1st. These structural changes, combined with a new photovoltaic system on the training ground, show the club's commitment to progress both in terms of sport and infrastructure.
In addition, Andrea Norheim, a Champions League winner, was signed from Sporting Lisbon, which underlines RB Leipzig's level of ambition. The U19 youth team was also happy about winning the Saxony Cup, which gives hope for future talent that can be integrated into the professional squad. Trust in our own youth remains a mainstay of the club.
