RB Leipzig clearly wins 3-0 in the charity game against ZFC Meuselwitz!

On July 19, 2025, a charity game between the regional league team ZFC Meuselwitz and the Bundesliga team RB Leipzig took place in the Meuselwitz Arena, which was watched by around 3,808 spectators. Under the leadership of new coach Ole Werner, RB Leipzig won the friendly 3-0 (2-0) and was able to provide important impetus for the upcoming season. The proceeds from entrance fees and catering will benefit the construction of a new athletics building for the ZFC Meuselwitz, which underlines the social character of the event.

RB Leipzig competed with almost all top players and showed a dominating performance on the pitch. Of particular note is the first goal of the season, scored by Yan Diomande in the 24th minute after a wonderful set-up by Xavi Simons. Just five minutes later, Simons made it 2-0. In the second half, Luis Openda scored in the 53rd minute to make the final score 3-0. ZFC Meuselwitz, who shone with a committed performance despite the defeat, still had their chances, but were unable to take advantage of the opportunities they had in the meantime. Johan Bakayoko, who already caused a stir as a newcomer, missed a penalty in the 58th minute.

Leipzig's squad and preparation

Some players were missing from RB Leipzig's squad, including André Silva, Eljif Elmas and Timo Werner, who are considered candidates for sale. Kevin Kampl was not in the squad, while Amadou Haidara was out due to muscular problems and Tidiam Gomis due to an medial knee ligament injury. Peter Gulacsi and Maarten Vandevoordt were also in Leipzig to train. New acquisitions such as Ezechiel Banzuzi and Yan Diomande made their debut in the starting eleven and were able to attract attention.

Although Leipzig were dominant in the first half, the players struggled to convert their dominance into numbers, something that ZFC Meuselwitz's committed defense was responsible for. In the second half, Ole Werner changed his entire team, which led to a certain uncertainty in the management of the game. Nevertheless, Werner was satisfied with the team performance overall.

Outlook and upcoming games

ZFC Meuselwitz starts the regional league league games against Hertha BSC II on Friday evening, while RB Leipzig is flying to the training camp in Donaueschingen next week to prepare for the new season. The test match showed that RB Leipzig is well on its way to mastering the challenges of the upcoming season and at the same time supporting a good cause.
