New stadium heart for Lok Leipzig: pitch heating despite promotion bankruptcy!
After a disappointing season, 1. FC Lok Leipzig missed out on promotion to the 3rd league. Despite this setback, pitch heating will be installed in the club's stadium in order to be better prepared for license applications in the future. The necessary construction contracts for this infrastructure measure have already been awarded. Picture reports that the Regionalliga Nordost starts on the last weekend in July, a week before the start of the 3rd league.
The stadium's playing field is currently being moved five meters towards the main stand. In addition, MPN GmbH and Muldentaler Bauunion GmbH have already started installing the irrigation and drainage system. The old playing field surface has been removed and installation of the drainage layer is scheduled to begin on Monday. The company Rasenplan from Riehen, Switzerland, will install the lawn heating; the installation of the heating system is scheduled for June 30th.
License applications and upcoming challenges
While Lok Leipzig is working on its new structures, several teams in the Regionalliga Nordost are under pressure to submit their license applications on time. On March 27, 2025, 32 clubs from different leagues submitted their documents. Lok Leipzig, Hallescher FC and Carl Zeiss Jena are among the applicants for a license for the 2025/26 third division season. Kicker reports that all 18 regional league teams submitted their applications on time.
One of the clubs that also want to be licensed for the regional league is FC Energie Cottbus, currently in the title race for the 3rd league. In particular, BFV 08's decision not to apply for a license as seventh in the table could have an impact on the competitive conditions in the league.
The AG Admission will now examine the submitted documents and possibly issue conditions and requirements. The final decision on the admission of the clubs is to be made by the Executive Board on June 25, 2025.
In the midst of these preparations, Lok Leipzig has submitted an application to NOFV to start the new season with an away game. The team's new preparations started on Monday, and those responsible hope that all infrastructural measures will be completed in time.
