Shocking motorcycle accidents: two drivers seriously injured!
In the last few days, two motorcyclists in Saxony-Anhalt were injured in serious traffic accidents, which once again illustrates the dangers of motorcycling. On Friday, May 30th, around 8 p.m., the police and emergency services between Gommern and Möckern were alerted after a 20-year-old from Brandenburg an der Havel drove his Honda off the federal highway 246a. According to Volksstimme, the driver left the road due to a brief moment of inattention, rolled over several times and landed on a grassy area.
Witnesses stated that the motorcyclist had previously driven appropriately and adapted to the road and traffic conditions. However, he was seriously injured and flown in a rescue helicopter to a hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. Police reported that the driver's good protective clothing prevented anything worse from happening and that he is on the mend.
Further accidents show serious risks
There was another incident on Ascension Thursday in Hohenziatz, where a motorcyclist collided with a car. The driver was on the main road heading towards the town exit when the motorcyclist drove into the intersection from the right without braking. Despite the car driver braking immediately, an accident occurred, which also resulted in serious injuries. The motorcyclist was also transported to the Olvenstedt Clinic in a rescue helicopter.
These accidents highlight the risks motorcyclists take on the road. According to a study, the risk of dying in a motorcycle accident is about 21 times higher than in a car. In 2018, 629 motorcyclists died in Germany and over 20,000 were seriously injured. Accident researcher Siegfried Brockmann points out that even modern protective clothing and airbags can no longer provide sufficient protection at speeds over 25 km/h. According to Motorrad Online, it is crucial to avoid collisions to increase the safety of motorcyclists.
Important security measures
In view of the statistics presented, Brockmann calls for mandatory driving safety training, which should be carried out both on closed areas and in real traffic. This training could make a significant contribution to preventing serious accidents and help motorcyclists react better to dangerous traffic situations.
It is clear that riding a motorcycle not only gives a feeling of freedom, but also involves considerable danger. The case of the two motorcyclists in Saxony-Anhalt can serve as a wake-up call to increase both personal safety and overall road safety.
