Chicken breeding is booming: New facility in Möckern brings 80,000 animals!
Möckern, Deutschland - The Poultry Court of Möckern plans to build a new parenting facility in Zeddenick-Ziepel, a project that has been planning for over ten years. According to Volksstimme is to be created between the Landhaus Zeddenick and Vehlitz and belong to the Ziepel district. The planned two farms, each with two stables, should offer space for a total of 80,000 animals and are intended as replacement buildings for existing farms in Brandenburg that cannot be preserved.
The approval for the project is still pending and requires proof of compliance with limit values in terms of smell, noise and dust development. It is also pointed out that the site may be contaminated with contaminated sites because it is a former clay and sand pit that was temporarily used as a landfill. However, the expected loads from dust, noise, ammonia and smell are legally approved. The majority of the local council Ziepel had already approved the project.
planned changes and time frame
A change in the development plan concerns the melioration ditch and was stimulated in terms of an underground fire extinguishing pond to avoid wild water poultry. The Ziepel local councils have approved these changes to the Möckern city council. If everything went according to plan, the construction of the system could begin within one year, with a possible completion in 2027.
The Poultry Court Möckern GmbH currently employs around 150 people and produces around 58 million chicks annually. In view of the animal welfare standards, the federal government is working in parallel to a revision of the animal welfare reservation regulation. One goal of this revision, which is to be completed by mid-2025, is the introduction of improved posture standards and additional protective measures for farm animals, reports Agrarwelt .
preventive measures in the focus
The draft of the Federal Ministry includes minimum requirements and regulations for fire protection as well as operational disorders. The federal government plans to initiate the formal legal proceedings for the draft promptly. Specialist circles were consulted in order to obtain a well-founded feedback on the key points for the minimum requirements for the keeping of mast turkeys, young hens and parent animals of fattening and laying stations.
These measures are part of a comprehensive animal health strategy that is also developed to strengthen the framework conditions for agriculture and animal husbandry in Germany. The strategy is to be presented until the end of the legislative period and aims to establish preventive measures against emergencies such as fires and technical failures.
