Biederitzer C-Youth celebrates strong victory after a bumpy start!
On October 27, 2025, an exciting C-youth handball game took place between the Biederitz team and the team from Möckern. In this first game, the young athletes encountered some challenges, despite a promising start that saw the team take an early 4-0 lead. However, after nine minutes of the game it was already 3:3, which prompted coach Stephan Holzgräbe to carry out a critical analysis of his players' lack of concentration during the half-time break. At that time, Biederitz was temporarily behind 8:9, but was able to fight for a 10:9 lead by the break.
As the second half progressed, the young players increased their commitment and willingness to run considerably. By the 36th minute they had pulled away with an impressive 19:11, which underlined the Biederitz team's superiority. Ultimately, the team won the game 22:14, despite about twenty missed throws that were considered too many. This shows that there is still room for improvement, especially in the build-up of the game, which was more stable and secure in the second half.
A look at handball
Handball is a popular team sport around the world, usually played with two teams of seven players each (six field players and a goalkeeper). It was first played on December 2, 1917 in Berlin. The International Handball Federation (IHF) is the highest government body and organizes international competitions. Handball is particularly popular in Europe and was included in the Olympic program for the first time in 1936.
Current developments in handball indicate that the sport has become extremely widespread. Over 30 million people are active in around 130,000 teams worldwide, and the popularity of the game is also reflected in the financial aspects, such as an estimated value of 35 million euros in 2023. Players can earn considerable salaries, such as Luka Karabatić from France, who earns around 1.5 million euros annually.
Competitions and achievements
The IHF organizes various competitions in which both men and women compete. Men's handball has gained prominence in recent years, particularly thanks to Denmark, which has won five Olympic gold medals and won four consecutive IHF World Championships from 2019 to 2024. FC Barcelona was also able to prove its dominance in club handball with eleven EHF Champions League titles.
While the Biederitz team is showing impressive progress, the potential for further growth remains just as great as the global enthusiasm for the sport itself. With constant training and the right support, the young players could soon achieve even greater success.
