Adventure on the move: Trecker-Maik celebrates his 50th birthday in Mallorca!
Maik Horn, known as “Trecker-Maik”, started a remarkable 5,000 kilometer journey with his self-built GDR tractor. His destination is Mallorca, where he will celebrate his 50th birthday today, July 4, 2025. The trip, which had been planned for a long time and would take 15 days, went via Barcelona before the group reached the Mediterranean island by ferry.
In preparing for this extraordinary adventure, Maik Horn encountered many challenges. He had already dreamed of traveling to Mallorca with his tractor 20 years ago. He receives support from his wife Dani, who accompanies him in the support vehicle, a Wartburg 1.3. The other support vehicles include an IFA W50 truck and a motorhome. These vehicles help to transport the necessary parts and luggage over long distances.
Difficulties and temperatures
During the trip the temperatures sometimes rose to up to 50 degrees, which not only makes the tour a physical challenge, but also makes traveling demanding in a technical sense. The Wartburg posed a particular problem as it had a significant oil loss and could not be repaired on site. He had to be towed, forcing the group to allow extra time.
Maik Horn uses his passion and got a tattoo of the logo of the former VEB Traktorenwerk Schönebeck, which is emblazoned on his upper arm. His ZT 323 tractor has an impressive 210 hp, making him a powerful companion on this journey. Acquaintances, friends and companies actively supported him with financial support and spare parts.
Planning and review
The trip started smoothly after Pentecost, with the group stopping in Möckern, Wölfershausen and Bad Mergentheim. In order to minimize costs, they avoid hotel stays. Maik Horn himself is very afraid of flying and has only been on an airplane twice in his life. Therefore, for him this trip is an even more meaningful and personal alternative to a flight to Mallorca.
Today Maik Horn will not only achieve an impressive goal, but also celebrate a milestone birthday. A special reason for this trip is that a friend wanted to celebrate his 30th birthday there years ago. Now Maik Horn is fulfilling this dream for himself and having a big party on the beautiful island of Mallorca.
The spectators and fans are eagerly waiting to see how the journey develops and what challenges still need to be overcome as Maik Horn and his group continue to drive towards Mallorca.
