Cologne runs 147 kilometers for women's shelter - donation destination almost reached!

Last weekend, Robin Pfleger showed a remarkable commitment to social issues by running 147 kilometers around the Decksteiner Weiher in a demanding fundraiser. The run took place on Saturday morning at 7 a.m. near the Geißbockheim and lasted a total of 22 hours. The aim of this extraordinary effort was to collect donations for the Cologne women's shelter. Pfleger ran based on the Backyard Ultra competition from the USA, in which the participants have to complete rounds of 6.706 kilometers within 24 hours. In order to achieve the necessary distance, however, nurses shifted the group around the pond, since it did not quite correspond to the required length.

During the run, nurses usually needed a three -quarters of an hour per round and was actively supported by friends. A friend even set up a meal station and brought a hammock with him to give him a little break during the long hours of running. The night was particularly challenging between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. when the carer was alone and finally had to give up because of an emerging thunderstorm.

fund for the Cologne women's shelter

Earlier experiences with ultra marathons had already enabled Robin Pfleger to gain donations for social projects. In an earlier run, he achieved 60 euros, while he received remarkable 2600 euros for his current campaign via social media. Nurses plans to increase the sum to 3000 euros. The donations collected come to the sponsoring association of the Cologne women's shelter, women help women. Nurses emphasized the importance of supporting local institutions and set a clear accent for feminism. One of the next goals is the symbolic handover of a check, in which he also wants to find out about the work of the women's shelter.

global challenges and solidarity

The importance of such donations is also visible against the background of global challenges, which are reinforced by climate change, conflicts and natural disasters. Corona pandemic has strengthened the hunger and poverty problem in many Welthungerhilfe projects. Through targeted donations, not only help for acute crises, such as in India, should be provided, but also the long -term support of projects in other affected regions such as Mali, Liberia and Burundi. The virtual donation run thus makes an important contribution to relieve the need and systematically help people in crisis situations. [Welthungerhilfe] ensures that the funds are used where they are most urgently needed.

In view of the excellent performance of Robin Pflegerer and the continued globalization of the auxiliary measures, it becomes clear how important the support of local and global initiatives is to enable progress in the fight against hunger and injustice.
