Travemünde Week 2025: Safety is a top priority – fireworks are in danger!
Today, July 17, 2025, the 136th Travemünde Week will be officially opened by Lübeck's Mayor Jan Lindenau. This traditional event, which this year extends from July 18th to 27th, attracts thousands of visitors to the Hanseatic city every year. Preparations have largely been made, but some important approvals are still pending.
The news of the lack of permits for the final fireworks and laser show is causing mixed reactions. Uwe Bergmann, managing director of the event agency uba, expressed confidence that the permits will be granted, although the sound insulation report is currently being examined by the Lübeck authorities. According to the plans, the spectacular laser show, which will take place on the Passat for the first time in many years, will take place every evening from Monday to Saturday. The grand finale is scheduled for 10:45 p.m. on the last Sunday of the event, July 27, 2025.
Security concept and police presence
Travemünde Week will not only be a sporting and family celebration, but will also be accompanied by a strict security concept. The event is organized by the Hanseatic City of Lübeck in cooperation with the Lübeck Police Department. To ensure a safe event, an increased police presence will be set up on and around the event site. The police are supported by reinforcements from the riot police from Eutin.
In order to counteract potential dangers and violent crimes, especially with knives or other weapons, there is a ban on weapons and knives throughout the entire area. Violations of this ban will be punished with fines or criminal proceedings. Multilingual posters on buses, trains and on the event site are intended to draw visitors' attention to the ban.
Traffic rules and visitor information
When traveling to Travemünde Week, it is strongly recommended to use public transport, as the public transport service will be expanded during the event period. Drivers should only use the designated parking spaces and keep emergency routes clear. Kaiserallee will be set up as a one-way street in the direction of “Helldahl”. A parking ban on Am Leuchtenfeld street was ordered for police emergency vehicles.
There are also safety regulations for water sports enthusiasts. These include, among other things, compliance with speed limits and a ban on alcohol and drug consumption while driving. Bathers are warned not to swim in the fairway to avoid collisions. There is also a call to visitors to act responsibly and avoid consuming cannabis.
The Lübeck Police Department wishes for a peaceful Travemünde Week 2025 and hopes for a successful event that offers unforgettable moments for everyone involved. There is great anticipation for the event and many guests travel specifically for the impressive fireworks display.
