Art in the Malek House: Mobile studio brings a breath of fresh air to Holzhausen!
In Holzhausen am Ammersee, an empty house becomes a temporary studio for two artists. The project, called “Mobile Atelier”, will be used by the two graduates of the Düsseldorf Art Academy, Hanna Kuster and Lara Werth, until July 19th. Thanks to the financial support of the Bavarian Ministry of Art and the municipality of Utting, this project can be realized. The idyllic location of the Malek House, just a few steps from Lake Ammersee, offers the two artists optimal conditions for their creative work. Mayor Florian Hoffmann is also planning to convert the Malek House into a village community center.
Around 70 artist duos applied to take part in the mobile studio, and a jury ultimately selected Kuster and Werth. As the South German newspaper reports, the artist duo is not only interested in artistic production, but also uses the opportunity to exchange ideas with the local community. Kuster and Werth have a friendly relationship that began in bar conversations. While Kuster already has positive memories of Lake Ammersee, Werth is new to Bavaria.
Artistic exchange and inspiration
As part of the project, various events are planned to promote exchange with the community population. An accompanying program with “After Work Art” starts on June 13th, followed by an afternoon with seniors, a parent-child workshop and an open studio. The finissage on July 19th at 4 p.m. will be used to present the results of the artistic work. At the same time, the two artists create large-format, brightly colored paper works that are intended to encourage Holzhausen's residents and visitors to participate artistically.
Kuster and Werth find inspiration not only in the landscape of Lake Ammersee, but also in the tradition of the Holzhausen artists' colony, which was founded by Paul Hoecker around 1900. Around 50 artists created a space of authenticity and community spirit here. The Mobile Atelier would like to revive this tradition. In recent years, Holzhausen has experienced an increasing influx of artists and has become increasingly popular as a creative place.
Mediation of contemporary art
The Mobile Atelier has been traveling through Bavaria since October 2023 to bring contemporary art to rural areas. The aim is to strengthen the visibility of contemporary art and to promote encounters and exchange between artists and the population. The JES Cultural Foundation supports the project financially and thus promotes artistic work and community initiatives in the region. As part of the project, the artists have access to up to 2,000 euros per month, which can also cover material costs of up to 1,000 euros.
Again BBK Bavaria Reportedly, after the current artist duo, a new call for proposals will be launched for another duo in order to continue the artistic footsteps in Holzhausen in the future. The application deadline for this is November 24, 2024, and the stay period is planned from June 6 to July 20, 2025.
