E-bike rider in Leipzig: Terrible accident with tram!
On Friday evening there was a serious accident on Lützner Straße in Leipzig in which a 24-year-old e-bike rider was hit by a tram. The young man was driving out of town on the sidewalk open to cyclists and wanted to turn into Brünner Straße at the intersection. He apparently overlooked the approaching tram on line 15, which hit him with full force.
After the accident, the e-bike rider was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Nothing is currently known about the exact reason why the driver overlooked the tram. The incident led to a temporary closure of the intersection, which affected tram traffic operated by Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe (LVB). The total damage caused to the tram and the e-bike is estimated at around 7,000 euros. This is not the first incident of this kind: similar accidents have already occurred in the region.
