Mobility evening in Hofstetten: Accessibility for everyone!

On October 22, 2025, an important mobility evening dedicated to the topic of accessibility took place in Hofstetten-Grünau. Around 30 community representatives from the Lower Austrian Central region were present to discuss various aspects of barrier-free mobility. This event was organized by the mobility management NÖ-Mitte and offered a review of current projects as well as an outlook on the plans for 2026. A central highlight of the evening was the opening of a new barrier-free train station in Hofstetten-Grünau, which is now considered a showcase project for barrier-free mobility in the region.

The initiative underlines the growing awareness of the need for comprehensive accessibility in public transport. It is important that all people, regardless of their physical abilities, have access to the transportation they need to improve their quality of life. This attitude is also reflected in the efforts of Deutsche Bahn.

Barrier-free offers from Deutsche Bahn

Deutsche Bahn has put the needs of travelers with disabilities at the heart of its development of new digital products and services. According to nachhaltigkeit.deutschebahn.com, the company is guided by the legal requirements of the Accessibility Strengthening Act (BFSG). All Deutsche Bahn business areas have been sensitized to the topic of barrier-free mobility in order to offer barrier-free digital services.

An internal guideline for implementing digital accessibility was published in June 2023. Numerous relevant applications are already either completely or almost completely barrier-free. Digital accessibility offerings have also been tested or tests are being planned.

Support for people with disabilities

In addition, people with severe disabilities (from a disability level of 70) benefit from reduced BahnCard offers. These travelers have the opportunity to use all local trains nationwide without an additional ticket, provided they can show their severely disabled person's ID card and a corresponding leaflet with a valid token. Deutsche Bahn is committed to making it easier for travelers with limited mobility to plan their trips. The “Accessible Travel Destinations in Germany and Austria” website offers mobility packages that not only include accommodation, but also excursion and cultural programs.

These offers were developed in collaboration with the working group “Easy Travel: Barrier-free Holiday Destinations in Germany” and the “Barrier-Free Austria” project, with the aim of significantly improving access to tourist destinations. This all happens against the backdrop of increased awareness of accessibility, which is becoming increasingly important in both public transport and the digital world.
