New momentum in the Schwarzbach Museum: Poppitzhaus shines after renovation!
In the small village of Schwarzbach near Rochlitz, a dedicated team is bringing a breath of fresh air to rural life and folk architecture. Jan Zimmermann, a passionate employee at the Schwarzbach Museum, is a central figure in this initiative. He brings craftsmanship into his work and sees museum work as his life's work. Next weekend, the museum will celebrate a big Thanksgiving festival that celebrates the rural lifestyle and strengthens the connection to the region. A detailed catering schedule has currently been drawn up in the neighboring Poppitzhaus in order to offer visitors a high-quality experience. The renovation of the Poppitzhaus is the focus of the activities of Zimmermann and his team. This process shows not only commitment but also a deep appreciation for regional history.
The renovation work on the Poppitz House was recently successfully completed after it was severely affected by a house buck infestation. This historic building is one of the oldest half-timbered houses in Saxony and forms an essential part of the Museum of Folk Architecture and Rural Culture in Schwarzbach. This project was supported by the Saxony Monument Network, which has been providing active help since spring 2022. The fight against the house buck infestation took place in the first half of 2023, followed by a comprehensive repair of the half-timbered facade, which is scheduled to be completed in 2024, informed denkmalnetzsachsen.de.
Challenges and solutions
A major challenge was the house buck infestation, which was successfully combated using modern methods, including a thermal hot air process. During the repair, damaged half-timbered timbers were removed and replaced according to the material. The “healthy cutting” method, which serves to preserve the original substance of the house, also contributed to this. Sonorous details, such as the historic design of the gable side with boarding and shot notch, not only give the Poppitz House visual charm, but also preserve the cultural identity of the building.
The renovation work was completed in autumn 2023, with the association's volunteer members playing a particularly important role. Further measures to furnish the house's interior and to preserve other historical buildings are already planned for 2024. These developments are not only part of a museum concept, but are also intended to promote access to rural building culture for the public, making the museum a lively place for learning and experiencing.
The combination of craftsmanship, passionate museum work and committed members brings fresh impetus to rural life in the Schwarzbach Museum, which becomes an important hub for regional culture and tradition.
