Mega sports hall for Böhlitz-Ehrenberg: construction starts next week!
The construction project for a new three-field sports hall in Böhlitz-Ehrenberg is about to begin. According to the information from LVZ Construction will officially start next week. The construction of this long-requested project, which has been in focus for over a decade, is intended to significantly improve the infrastructure in the Alt-West district.
The symbolic groundbreaking ceremony is carried out by a remarkable constellation of three mayors: Heiko Rosenthal (sport), Vicki Felthaus (school) and Thomas Dienberg (construction). The hall will be built on a meadow on Schönauer Landstrasse, opposite the Edeka market, and is expected to be completed in August 2027 - just in time for the new school year.
Construction costs and features
The estimated total cost of the project is around 17.4 million euros. This investment is particularly significant because the Alt-West district is currently the only one in Leipzig that does not have a two- or three-field hall. The building is planned using modern wooden construction with a partially green roof and a photovoltaic system. There are also parking spaces for 17 cars and around 100 bicycles.
The new hall will be of great importance for the elementary schools in Böhlitz-Ehrenberg and Gundorf as well as the Pestalozzi high school. These schools currently share a small 1.5-field sports hall, which severely limits sporting activities.
Development history
The demand for a new sports hall was already discussed in the city council in 2014. A suitable property was found in 2016 and taken over by the sports office. The official starting signal for the project was given in August 2023. The construction of the three-field sports hall in the Alt-West district is currently anchored in the 2024 sports program for Leipzig linksfraktion-leipzig.de reported.
In addition, there is a valid building permit for the project. However, concrete construction measures are not yet foreseeable. This raises questions that have been addressed to the mayor. This includes an assessment of the current implementation status as well as information on a revised cost estimate and financing of the project.
Overall, the new three-field sports hall not only represents a necessary expansion of the sporting infrastructure, but also an improvement in the conditions for the schools in the area. The building has the potential to significantly promote sporting life in Böhlitz-Ehrenberg and make a valuable contribution to the community.
