In an emotional act of handover, President André Hesse retired on September 11, 2025 and Dr. Frank Niechziol was introduced as the new President of the Pirna Federal Police Directorate. The 55-year-old Niechziol, previously President of the Federal Riot Police Directorate, succeeds Hesse, who has been confronted with significant challenges such as Corona, migration flows and the Ukraine conflict over the last six years.
Hesse emphasized how important cooperation was in difficult times and thanked the employees for their tireless efforts. In the celebratory ceremony, Dr. Dieter Romann, Head of the Federal Police Headquarters in Potsdam, the significance of the new term of office and the expectations of Niechziol as a fresh leader in a crucial period for the Federal Police.
