Day of action in Saxony: Police strike back at hatred and hate speech online!

German law enforcement authorities have today initiated over 180 police measures to combat criminal hatred and hate speech on the Internet. This is happening as part of a day of action coordinated by the BKA, also in Saxony, to take decisive action against criminal hate postings. The central office for combating Internet PMK of the Saxony State Criminal Police Office organized the measures in cooperation with the police departments of Leipzig, Chemnitz, Zwickau and Görlitz.

The investigation focuses on a total of 16 suspects, including 12 men and one woman, as well as a child. The offenses range from incitement to insults to the use of symbols of unconstitutional organizations. Particularly striking: Thirteen of the hate posts fall under the PMK-right category. The day of action not only aims to arrest perpetrators, but also aims to educate and sensitize citizens about how to deal with extremist statements in social networks. Hate postings can easily be reported via the Saxony Police online watchdog – around the clock!
