New highlight at the Archeo-Path Dresden: Info-Stele to Prohlis Castle!
in Prohlis something happens: the Archaeo Pfad Dresden has received another information stele that was inaugurated today at the corner of Dohnaer Straße/Gamigstraße. This twelfth stele is dedicated to the historic castle and Park Prohlis, which tells a fascinating story.
The "Prohliser Wäldchen" represents the remaining part of the former castle park, which once formed an impressive ensemble with the Neorenaissance lock built in 1887/1888. Tragically, the castle came to an end in 1980 in a devastating fire and was demolished in 1985. In 2000, the forest was returned to the descendants of the last castle owner and has been upgraded continuously with the Prohlis district office according to historical templates. So the story is kept alive and made understandable for the following generations.
a look into the past
The museum educational project “Looking for the Prohlis Castle” has been running since 2021, which has already drawn numerous school classes and numerous individuals to the excavations at the original location of the castle. The participants have the option of releasing the added structures and actively dealing with the Proshlis local history. Interesting finds have already been made there- starting with the remains to the remnants of glass and ceramic to a shoe heel and a resort door.
All finds have in common that they are owned by Moritz Freiherr von Crailsheim, who makes the decision on their further use. In 2023 walls of the ground floor could be uncovered on the north side, including tiles of the castle bathroom-an exciting look at that time!
The circular hiking trail for those interested in history
The Archeo path, which was launched in May 2020, extends over twelve kilometers and offers a wonderful setting for a cultural-historical exploration. The path leads its visitors through the districts of Prohlis, Nickern and Kauscha and gives interesting insights into the long history of the region. Along the path are eleven stations with over two meters high information boards that tell of archaeological finds from the Neolithic to industrialization.
Particularly outstanding highlights are the four district ditch systems in nickers and two graves from the migration period that can presumably be assigned to the Langobards. The Palitzschhof in Prohlis, where the Palitzsch Museum can be found, serves as a starting point for this informative circular route.
cooperation for the future
The success of the Archeo path is a community performance: the Prohlis city administration, the State Office for Archeology Saxony and the Heimatverein Prohlis e. V. worked together on the implementation. Steffen Bösnecker, the local researcher behind the idea, developed the concept on the basis of older excavation reports and got the initiative of an like -minded group rolling. A city council decision on May 15, 2014 fell unanimously, and with the help of 30,000 euros in funding, the path could be realized.
For everyone who wants to deal with the exciting history of Saxony, the Archeo path throws a light on the rich cultural heritage of the region and shows how important it is to preserve and protect archaeological monuments. Because the preservation of historical remains is crucial to give future generations an insight into the past, as well as on the pages of the State Office for Archeology Saxony .
