Wild evening in Leipzig: fire, accidents and stolen car in the city!

On October 22, 2025, the Leipzig police carried out several operations today that involved both theft and accidents. Of particular note is the discovery of a stolen vehicle during a border check in Hellendorf, which took place between October 14th and 21st. It is a white Peugeot Boxer, whose value is estimated at just under 50,000 euros. The 47-year-old suspect from Poland, who also stole license plates from a car dealership, was caught after a brief escape. The vehicle was seized for forensic work, while investigations into particularly serious theft due to the high value of the property are already underway. The man was released after police action, reports Leipzig Internet newspaper.

According to reports, around 30 cars are stolen every day in Germany ADAC. In the event of theft, it is important to inform the police immediately and report the theft to your insurance company. If the missing vehicle is a leased or financed car, the lessor or bank must also be notified. It is advisable to deregister at the road traffic office in order to avoid unnecessary vehicle taxes and insurance premiums.

Fires in Borna and Leipzig

On October 21st, a house fire occurred in an apartment building in Borna, more precisely on Heinrich-Heine-Straße. The fire, which broke out at 12:45 p.m., caused severe damage to the apartment, which is now uninhabitable. Fortunately, there were no people in the apartment at the time and there were no injuries. Fire investigators have already been called in, but the damage to property has not yet been quantified.

Also on October 21st, there was a roof fire in an empty apartment building on Georg-Schwarz-Straße in Leipzig (Leutzsch). The fire department was called upon at 11:45 p.m. and was busy extinguishing the fire until the early hours of the morning. Tram traffic was temporarily stopped. There were no injuries here either, but the damage to property remains unclear and investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.

Traffic accidents and road hazards

The dangers in road traffic are still clearly noticeable. On October 21st there was a serious accident in Naunhof, where a 68-year-old cyclist was hit by a 75-year-old truck driver while turning. The cyclist was seriously injured and taken to hospital. The material damage amounts to around 1,000 euros.

Another accident occurred on Karl-Liebknecht-Straße in Leipzig (Südvorstadt), where a 75-year-old cyclist was hit by a truck driver on the same day. The seriously injured cyclist was immediately taken to hospital, although the damage to property could not yet be quantified.

Finally, the population is also informed about a traffic accident in Böhlitz-Ehrenberg early in the morning of October 22nd, in which the driver of a Mercedes Vito drove into a house wall. Here too, the 34-year-old driver was seriously injured and is being investigated for endangering road traffic after the smell of alcohol was detected. The exact cause of the accident is still being investigated. These incidents highlight the ongoing challenges to road safety.
