New disaster center in Meißen: Fire brigade and emergency services strengthened!
On September 27, 2025, the district of Meißen inaugurated a new multifunctional building that was built in Glaubitz. After a construction period of three years, this center will now act as an important element for fire brigade, emergency services and disaster protection. It offers specialized facilities for the maintenance of technology and the training of the emergency services.
The necessary improved working conditions for the emergency services include new sanitary areas that are also available for women for the first time. In addition, a respiratory protection training was set up and a modern vehicle hall was created. These measures are particularly relevant, since the importance of such infrastructures last summer 2025 was clear during a devastating forest fire, in which 2,400 hectares of forest and fields in the Gohrischheide were on fire - only about ten kilometers from the new functional building. The facility enables the emergency services to optimally prepare for future emergencies and to improve their reaction skills. During the inauguration, visitors had the opportunity to get information about self -help in emergencies.
Importance of the regional infrastructure
The inauguration of the new center shows not only the district's commitment to improve the security structure, but also the need for robust infrastructures in emergency times. Disasters like the forest fires make it clear how important it is to have well -trained and equipped forces available.
In Hesse, disaster protection is also modernized in parallel to developments in Saxony. The Hessian Ministry of the Interior, for Security and Homeland Protection receives 26 new emergency vehicles that act as device car logistics disaster protection (GW-L Kats). These vehicles are based on the high -country U 5023 UNIMOG and are flexible in the application, for example in forest fire fighting or in flood situations.
Each vehicle is assigned to one of the Hessian counties or independent cities. The vehicles are characterized by a ground clearance of over 50 cm and a high wading capacity of 1.2 m. They are equipped with flexible modules that can be used for different emergencies, for example as a tank fire truck with over 2,000 liters of extinguishing agents or as an armored car for floods.
The expansion of the vehicles also enables the use of the loading area for the transport of sandbags or Euro pallets, which significantly increases operational capacity in critical situations.
Overall, it shows that both Saxony and Hesse are well positioned through their investments in the infrastructure for disaster protection. The new facilities and vehicles will make a decisive contribution to supporting the emergency services in their important work and ensuring the safety of the population.
