An investigation into breach of the peace has been initiated, while the state security agency is carrying out further investigations L-IZ reports.
The incident in Volkmarsdorf is not the first of its kind in Leipzig. Similar serious crimes have already been recorded in the past. In February 2023, a group in another part of the city caused significantly greater damage to property using pyrotechnics and targeted property damage, including the ignition of a construction site vehicle, as in a report by T Online mentioned. The investigations by the State Criminal Police Office are still ongoing.
Fire in a semi-trailer
On the same day, May 24, 2025, there was another incident on Autobahn 14. A semi-trailer truck with Romanian registration broke down between Mutzschen and Grimma due to a technical defect. Traffic accidents and burglaries
Meanwhile, a traffic accident occurred on the BAB 9 towards Munich at around 12:25 p.m. An 80-year-old overlooked a Mercedes while changing lanes, which led to a collision. On other fronts, the authorities are struggling with rising crime rates. On the night of May 24th, a daycare center in Leipzig-Lausen-Grünau was broken into. Unknown perpetrators broke into several rooms. There were also break-ins in a supermarket and a bicycle shop in Colditz and Borna on the same night, with tobacco products and e-bikes stolen.
In addition, several political graffiti related to the Middle East conflict were spotted in the Leipzig center on May 23rd. These were installed in various places, including the Old Stock Exchange and the City History Museum. The extent of the damage has not yet been quantified; investigations into property damage are ongoing.
The situation in Leipzig remains tense and the police will continue to do everything they can to ensure the safety of citizens.
